How My Empowerment Book Evolved: From 50 Words to 35 Chapters

🎤 Behind the Roar | June 25, 2025

I decided I wanted to write a motivational and inspirational book long before I ever thought about book titles. Something you could pick up for a few minutes each morning to get a quick boost of motivation. Like a morning jump start. A jolt of empowerment and inspiration.

My initial vision was to build the book around powerful words like confident, captivating, fierce — each one becoming its own daily spark in the form of a short chapter. I thought I could keep each chapter to around 800 words. Short, succinct, and easy to read while you eat your breakfast or sip your coffee.

And then I started writing about the word Confident.
And then I kept writing…
And then I rewrote…
And then I restructured…

And I eventually realized that I needed to do more than just talk about the word. I needed to explore the word. I needed to share personal stories, struggles, and the moments when I didn’t feel confident at all.

In other words, I needed to be vulnerable for my readers.

By sharing my own challenges and experiences, my hope is that it opens the door for you, my reader, to inspect your own relationship with the word confident (and other empowerment words in the book).

That single chapter turned into something deeper and more layered. Before I knew it, the “Confident” chapter was well over 1500 words.

And I thought:
If I did that for every chapter, I’m going to have an epic-historical-fiction-length book on my hands — like 75,000+ words!

That’s when it hit me:
💥 This book had a purpose beyond just an inspirational read.
It was becoming a toolkit — something to help others reclaim their worth and power. Not just through words of encouragement, but through reflection, strategy, and real-life examples. I didn’t want to just inspire — I wanted to equip.

And the more I kept writing, the more I realized: I didn’t need 50 words. I needed the right words.

I started to narrow in on the words that truly mattered — the ones that show up in my life over and over again. The words that I have learned to master through my experiences — and the ones I still struggle to claim.

I finally had that “a-ha” moment when I realized the obvious: If I am struggling to claim certain words and master them, then others are, too. And the more I continued to write, the more the book began to find its rhythm. That’s when these empowering words, these chapters, became grouped into five powerful parts, each one like a stepping stone for your own self-discovery journey:

🔹Recognizing your worth
🔹Lighting your inner spark
🔹Rising up with resilience
🔹Leading with vision
🔹Discovering yourself in ways that help you grow into the woman you were always meant to be

And that’s when the title came to me:
Roar Like A Woman.

Not because I was angry.
Not because I needed to be loud.
But because I finally knew what it meant to reclaim my voice — and I wanted others to know, too.

So, yeah — it started with 50 words.
✨And it became 35 chapters, each one more powerful and personal than I originally imagined.

Because I had too much to say to keep it small.

And honestly? I wouldn’t change a thing. 💛
