The Ember That Never Dies

🎤 Behind the Roar | October 25, 2025

Tenacity isn’t just about pushing through challenges—it’s about refusing to let your dreams go dark.

In the last few months, I’ve realized how important it is to keep our dreams alive—to keep that ember glowing and never let it fade.

When I was in elementary and junior high school, I used to write little stories all the time. I had a vivid imagination and loved living vicariously through my characters—usually brave adventurers chasing some hidden treasure from long-forgotten pirate lore.

As I grew older, the demands of work, home, and everything in between started to crowd out my creative time. That spark dimmed into a small ember, and eventually became a smoldering memory of a passion I thought I’d outgrown.

A couple of years ago, while unpacking some (literal) boxes of memories, I found a handmade book I’d created in junior high. It was about unicorns—a project from English class during our study of poetry. I had made that book out of construction paper, with carefully hand-written poems about unicorns, and glued cut-out images to create a visual storybook.

The flood of memories that came rushing back was surprisingly emotional. I remembered how much joy I found in creating that book—researching poems, curating the perfect ones, arranging them just so.

And then the realization hit me—as close to a physical blow as one can get: this was my passion. It always had been. And somehow along the way, I had discarded it—tucked it away as if it no longer mattered.

It’s so easy to set our passions aside as adults. We tell ourselves we’ll get back to them when things slow down, but somehow, “later” keeps moving further away. The excuses pile up, and before we know it, the flame of our dream is at risk of being extinguished.

But here’s the truth: our dreams don’t disappear—they actually wait. Quietly. Patiently. Like a small ember glowing beneath the ashes, ready to ignite the moment we breathe life back into it.

Being tenacious doesn’t mean chasing your goals at full speed every day. Sometimes, it’s one small, stubborn step toward what lights you up—pulling out your paint supplies once a month, writing a single page, or signing up for a class that makes you feel alive again.

Your dream deserves to stay in motion, no matter how small that motion looks.
Because the ember only dies when we stop tending to it.

I picked up my writing dream again several months ago—and I’m keeping that fire alive every week through these blogs, my social posts, and most recently, my book Roar Like A Woman.

My challenge to you today:
What’s one small act of tenacity you can take this week to keep your passion alive?

Don’t wait for the perfect timing—breathe life into your dreams now.
Even the smallest of sparks can grow into a glorious, flaming Roar.

Ronda 💛
