Finding Your Purpose

🖋️ The Lioness Journals | August 11, 2025

A common theme has been bubbling up in conversations I’ve had with friends, family, and co-workers lately: feeling stuck in the daily grind of repetition, with little to no time for self-reflection or the things that truly bring us joy.

Honestly? I’ve felt the same way. Some days it’s like living in the move Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. You wake up to the exact same routine: shower, breakfast, coffee, work, calls, meetings, reports, home, dinner, kids’ activities or social obligations, maybe squeeze in a workout, then back to bed. Repeat.

It’s not that these routines are bad—many of them are meaningful and necessary—but when every day blurs into the next, you can start to wonder: Is this all there is?

My answer? A resounding no. There’s more to life than simply checking boxes on an endless to-do list. And that’s where purpose enters the conversation.

Why Purpose Matters

Everyone has a purpose in life. You may not know exactly what yours is right now—and that’s okay. Your purpose will look different from mine, and that’s not just okay, it’s the beauty of it.

Purpose gives meaning to your choices. It can shape your priorities, guide your decisions, and infuse even the most ordinary days with a sense of direction. Without it, it’s easy to drift—doing things because you’ve always done them, rather than because they light you up.

And here’s the thing: your purpose is not set in stone. It can shift, grow, and evolve as you do. Years ago, mine was closely tied to my corporate career. Today, it’s evolved into something even bigger—empowering others to recognize their worth, use their voices, and live #WithPurpose.

The Journey to Discovering Your Purpose

Finding your purpose is a journey of self-discovery. There’s no single “right” way to do it, but there are practices that can help you uncover and refine it over time:

1.      Be introspective. Look inward. Reflect on what you’re doing now, or what you’ve done in the past, that made you feel alive and fulfilled.

2.      Know yourself. Get honest about what excites you and brings you joy. Sometimes, we forget the things we once loved because we’ve been too busy surviving.

3.      Explore. Try new things, even if they feel out of your comfort zone. You might be surprised by what sparks curiosity and joy.

4.      Seek external insight. Ask friends, mentors, or colleagues what they see in you. Sometimes, others can identify strengths and passions we’ve overlooked.

Remember: the purpose you uncover today may not be the one you carry forever. And that’s a good thing—it means you’re growing.

Living Purposefully – Personal Check-in:

Do you know what your purpose is?
What’s the one thing that drives you, empowers you, motivates you to do more?

And here’s a tougher question: What are you waiting for?

Is it fear of failing? Worry that you’re too young—or too old? The excuses we tell ourselves can be convincing, but they’re often just protective walls we’ve built to avoid the hard work of change.

If that’s you, I want to challenge you to start breaking down those walls. Yes, it’s work. Yes, it’s uncomfortable at times. But the reward? A life that feels fully your own.

When you step into your purpose, you’ll start to see its ripple effects—not just in your life, but in the lives of the people around you.

A Word From Roar Like A Woman

From the Purposeful chapter in Roar Like A Woman:

“When you commit to living purposefully, you’re not just changing your own life—you’re shaping a legacy. You’re becoming a lighthouse in someone else’s storm.”

Don’t wait for a crisis to wake you up—claim your power and live your life purposefully now.

Your Turn to Roar

Take some time this week to sit with these questions:

  • What lights me up?
  • What am I curious about that I haven’t explored yet?
  • If I could devote the next year to something meaningful, what would it be?

Write it down. Talk it out with someone you trust. Take one step—any step—toward it this week.

Let’s find our purpose and live life out loud #WithPurpose.
