Prioritizing You: A Personal Check-In

🖋️ The Lioness Journals | June 30, 2025

A few days ago, I shipped out the very first orders of Roar Like A Woman.
It was a surprisingly emotional moment—I realized this is just the beginning of something greater. The hard work over the last few months has been so rewarding—late nights, random writer’s block, edits, and even total rewrites of chapters.

But through it all, I’ve learned something invaluable: When you want something—truly want it—you have to be willing to put in the work to get it.

And that’s exactly what I’ve been doing the last few months—putting in the work.
Not saying that to boast—I’m saying it to share something honest. My personal life has gone through a transformation recently. I made an intentional choice: to focus on myself. To prioritize myself. After spending the majority of my adult life putting others first, I reached a pivotal point and finally said to myself, “No more.”

I stopped drinking alcohol 9 ½ months ago (290 days to be exact!).
I stopped binge-watching TV.
I stopped going out every weekend just to drink and hang out.
I stopped making excuses for why I couldn’t focus on the things that I knew were right for me.

And I started…
…playing my piano again.
…drinking more water.
…eating better.
…moving more deliberately (exercise!).
…reading more.
…and writing—actually putting pen to paper and writing, rewriting, and writing some more.

What I discovered was this:
I had forgotten how much I love to write.
I had forgotten how much I loved playing the piano.
I had forgotten how much I missed the little joys in my life—until I remembered to prioritize them again.

Now, I know it’s easy to say all this—I’m sitting here single, without some of the family obligations you might have. But here’s a little secret: you can still find time to prioritize you. To go after your dreams, your desires. To remember—and feel—the incredible joy that the things you love bring you.

I touch on this in the Transforming chapter of Roar Like A Woman.
For too long, I created self-imposed expectations that everyone and everything around me deserved the front seat on my journey.
But when I finally remembered that I am the driver—and I control the destination—that’s when the transformation began.

It’s not about waiting for life to change you—
it’s about choosing to evolve yourself, on purpose.

This is what The Lioness Journals are all about—a space for deeper reflection, connection, and roaring from the inside out.

And this is where we continue.

🟡 Reflection Prompt:

What is one thing you can do today to prioritize you?

It’s never too late to take back control and put yourself first.
It doesn’t have to be some major change.
Start with one small, foundational step.

You’ll still have obligations. That won’t go away.
But you can always find five minutes for yourself.

Start small.
And then build upon that single, quiet, intentional act of reclaiming your time, your space, your joy, and your worth.

And if no one else tells you this today, please hear it from me:
I care about you.
I believe in you.

And together, we’ll keep working toward becoming the best versions of ourselves.
I’m in it with you—let’s do this together.

Because you matter.
