When I Started Doubting the Entire Book

🎤 Behind the Roar | July 5, 2025

I wish I could tell you that the final round of edits for Roar Like a Woman felt like a triumphant victory lap.

It didn’t.

It felt like standing in the middle of my own story and wondering — is this enough? Am I enough?
I started second-guessing everything. The structure, the tone, even the premise. Would readers expect a step-by-step manual on how to be empowered? Would they feel disappointed when they realized it was something else?

Something more personal.

Looking back now, I realize it wasn’t logic talking — it was self-doubt, whispering in my ear like it has so many times before. Even at the 11th hour, when I was nearly done with the full book (round 4 of final edits), it showed up. Quietly. Persistently. Questioning whether my voice was strong enough. Whether my story mattered. Whether my words mattered.

And that’s when I had to pause, reflect, search deep within my soul — and I remembered my roar and my purpose: To empower others to reclaim their worth, through my voice, my words, my experiences.

Roar Like a Woman isn’t a textbook. It’s not a checklist or a life hack.

It’s a memoir in motion.
It’s my journey — the lived, raw, imperfect kind — shaped by words that challenged and healed me. Each chapter is a reflection of how I’ve wrestled with confidence, worth, purpose, grit, grace, and everything in between.

This book isn’t me claiming I have it all figured out. It’s me saying:
"Here’s how I’ve tried. Here’s what I’ve learned. Maybe it helps you find your way, too."

And the more I leaned into that truth, the more peace I found.
Because maybe what we need isn’t someone preaching from a pedestal — but someone walking the path with us.

So if you ever find yourself doubting your own voice — even when you’re this close to the finish line — I want you to know:

You’re not alone.
And your story is enough.
Because your truth is what sets others free.

@Howard ~ thank you so much for your thoughtful comments and kind words. That Self-doubt creeps into our daily thoughts when we least expect it! Having the tools to recognize that self-doubt “paralysis” is affecting us is one of the first steps towards taking back your power! Keep challenging yourself and know that you – and only you – can change your own mindset! I see you and I believe in you!!

I know the feeling of self doubt about the things I want to do to the point of paralysis. I wouldn’t have imagined someone who’s managed to put together a body of work filled with so much wisdom would have the same experience. Thank you for sharing the 🔑 of self reflection!
