Walking the Unmarked Road

I heard a line this weekend that caused me to pause and reflect:

“The path only unfolds behind us,
our steps themselves laying down the road.”

It resonated with me, most likely because I am at my own crossroads—and it names exactly what I’m feeling. And deep down inside, I’ve always known this to be true.

I don’t have a map for where I’m  headed—none of us truly do. There are no well-lit signposts—no pre-approved route to follow. Just a quiet knowing and a steady breath.

A sometimes-not-so-confident decision to take the next step.
And then the next one.
And the next one after that.

I know where I would like to be, and I know how I think I’m going to get there. But rarely does life go exactly as planned. Sometimes, a curveball is thrown into our path and we have to take an unexpected detour.

But still, I make the decision to take the next step.
And then the next one.
And the next one after that.

That’s what authenticity looks like. Not always a bold, confident stride—but a brave willingness to keep walking anyway.

Even when the trail vanishes.
Even when others look away, their authenticity shifting with the wind.
Even when you’re unsure where the path will lead.

I’ve been reflecting this week on what it means to lead with authenticity—especially in moments of uncertainty. When the systems around us reward self-preservation over truth. When the people you trusted become unrecognizable. When the winds shift and you are left wondering if the ground beneath you was ever truly solid.

And still—amidst uncertainty—my authentic self continues to walk forward, one step after another.

I don’t walk because I know the way.
I walk because I know myself.
Because I know what I stand for.
Because I know who I am when no one’s watching—I am the same consistently authentic person I always have been and always will be.
Because I believe that authenticity isn’t about being loud or liked—it’s about being rooted in something real.

As we move through this week, let this be a reminder for all of us:
