Tenacity: Holding On and Letting Go
🖋️ The Lioness Journals | October 20, 2025
This month’s Roar Journey theme, Resilience Rising, has reminded us that strength doesn’t always roar — sometimes it whispers, “Keep going.” Over the past few weeks, we’ve explored what it means to be Brave, to meet life’s challenges with quiet courage; Bold, to take unapologetic action; and Grit, the perseverance that keeps us moving through the long haul. This week, we turn to a word that deepens that journey: Tenacious — holding fast to your purpose while learning to adapt your path.
There’s a fine line between holding on with determination and holding on out of fear.
For much of my life, I thought tenacity meant white-knuckling my way through — refusing to let go, no matter what. I was proud of being the one who didn’t quit, who stayed late, who figured it out. But somewhere along the way, I learned that real tenacity isn’t just about clinging — it’s about staying rooted in purpose while allowing your path to bend.
That lesson feels especially close right now. I’m standing at a crossroads — a pivotal moment in my career and in my life. I can’t share details yet, but I sense a shift coming, one that asks me to release the future I thought I was chasing and make space for the one the universe is unfolding for me. For someone like me — who tends to hold on until the bitter end — that’s a new kind of tenacity. It’s the courage to let go, to trust that moving on isn’t quitting, and to believe that purpose sometimes changes form.
True tenacity is the quiet power of persistence and adaptability. It’s what keeps us anchored when the winds of life start to shift, yet flexible enough not to break. Sometimes being tenacious means standing firm in your “why.” Other times, it means knowing when to release your grip — on a plan, a timeline, or even a dream — so you can make space for something new to take shape.
For me, tenacity showed up in ways I didn’t expect. During cancer recovery, it wasn’t the loud, heroic kind of strength. It was the steady, daily decision to keep moving forward — to get up, breathe, heal, and believe. It was about trusting that purpose could coexist with uncertainty.
That’s the kind of tenacity I’ve come to love — not the fight against what’s happening, but the grace to adapt through it. It’s the same strength that carries us through workplace challenges, family chaos, or seasons where nothing seems to go as planned. Because being tenacious doesn’t mean never letting go — it means refusing to give up on yourself while learning to trust the process.
💭 Reflection Prompt:
Where in your life are you holding on too tightly — and what might shift if you loosened your grip just a little?
— With Gratitude,
Ronda 💛
